Design Devlog
The design of Red’s Daring rescue is cartoonish, and hand drawn. The way it gets this feel is by having predominantly hand drawn images for the various sprites. This has been done to emulate the feel of the Super Mario games which were partly the inspiration for Red’s Daring Rescue. This also emulates the hand drawn style of doodle jump, a game for mobile.

As all the sprites have been made by me, both levels have a distinct feel while being cohesive to the overarching style and the particular style of each level.

Feedback of the style of Red’s Daring Rescue has been good saying it well captures the feeling of the Super Mario games. All testers have said, however, that the background, and potentially the levels themselves, are too bare and require more points of detail or, in the case of the background, filling in to prevent large blocks of colour. Also, the design of Red means that he is difficult to distinguish from the background. This will be fixed by giving the players an outline. This will also make them fit the style of the rest of Red’s Daring Rescue too.
